"The King's Warden," a historical period epic on the life of the sixth king of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), has surpassed 11 million in ticket sales three days after reaching the 10 million mark.
Reaching 10 million in sales on March 6 on the 31st day after its release, the blockbuster is the country's 34th movie to break 10 million viewers and continued to draw moviegoers over the weekend.
The Korean Box Office Information System of the Korean Film Council on March 9 said "The King's Warden" drew about 1,725,000 viewers from March 6-8, accounting for 80.3% of box office revenue.
The cumulative number of viewers reached 11,503,000, breaking the records set by ‘"The Roundup: Punishment" (2024) with 11,502,000, "Tidal Wave" (2009) 11,450,000 and "Avengers: Infinity War" (2018) 11,210,000.
Directed by Jang Hang-jun, "The King's Warden" depicts the life of King Danjong (played by actor Park Jihoon) after his exile to Yeongwol-gun County, Gangwon-do Province. There, he spends the final years of his life interacting with the villagers including its chief Eom Heung-do (Yoo Hae-jin).
